Fred T. Busk, III – Managing Partner
Following a successful career in the banking and asset management industry, Fred co-founded Netherby Advisors in 2007 to improve the competitive position of smaller market participants by better utilizing outsourcing and operational platforms.
Fred has proven expertise in developing and executing high growth strategies having spent twelve years with the Bank of Bermuda Group in progressive levels of operational authority including:
- President, CEO and Chairman of the Group’s New York-domiciled trust bank
- Group Head of Strategic Planning and Corporate Development at the time of the bank’s acquisition by HSBC in 2004
After stepping down from HSBC in 2005, Fred joined W.P. Stewart & Company as Managing Director and Chief Marketing Officer.
Fred graduated from Colgate University in 1989. Fred lives with his family in Westport, CT.
Nate Dougall, J.D. Co-Founder, Senior Partner, Director of Investments
Prior to co-founding Netherby Advisors in 2007, Nate was a portfolio manager at Friess Associates LLC., manager of the Brandywine Funds from 1997 to 2007. Nate was co-manager of a $1 billion+ portfolio. He was made one of eight partners in 2001 when Friess Associates was acquired by Affiliated Managers Group.
From April 2005 – June 2006, Nate took a leave of absence from Friess and was deployed with the 18th Airborne Corps in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Major in the United States Army. Nate was the lead planner for Infrastructure Security in Iraq responsible for oil, gas and electric infrastructure security, optimization and development. Nate held a top-secret security clearance and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service.
Prior to joining Friess Associates, Nate was a legal associate from 1993 to 1997 with the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom, in the corporate litigation department.
Nate graduated from Albany University in 1992 with a dual degree in English and Political Science and received a J.D. from Delaware Law in 1997, where he was an editor of the law review.
Nate is still involved in the Army with the CT Army National Guard serving at the Connecticut Training Center in Niantic, CT. Additionally, Nate is on the boards of two non-profits – Citizens For Easton and the Fairfield County Farm Bureau. Previously, Nate served as Treasurer (2000 – 2004) and Chairman (2003 – 2005) of The Learning Center (TLC) in Jackson, WY – a multi-million dollar non-profit education and therapeutic program for children with disabilities.
Nate enjoys skiing, rugby, biking, kayaking and hiking and lives with his family in Easton, CT.
Thomas G. Hoffman, CFA – Chief Investment Officer
Tom chairs Netherby’s Investment Committee focusing on investment research, strategy, risk management and portfolio construction.
Tom has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, most recently serving as a Managing Director of Samoset Capital Group LLC, and Chief Investment Officer of Samoset Wealth Management where he was responsible for all aspects of the organization’s investment process and programs.
Prior to joining Samoset in 2007, Tom was the Chief Investment Officer of Managers Investment Group where he was instrumental in growing the firm’s products and services from under $1 Billion to over $8 Billion in assets under management.
Tom has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Investors Business Daily and a number of other financial publications, and has presented at various financial industry conferences. Tom currently serves on the Investment Committee for Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County.
Tom is a graduate of Lehigh University and the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University. Additionally, Tom has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of CFAI and the New York Society of Security Analysts.
Tom is an avid tele skier and resides with his family in Weston, CT.
